They say self-expression is a natural desire we all have. It gives us sense of freedom. People who are able to express themselves are believed to be healthier than those who don’t.
Over time, the ways of expressing oneself have become diverse. And although different forms of self-expression vary according to culture and beliefs, still the result boils down to one thing – the sense of feeling good. Who doesn’t want to feel good, by the way?
In today’s modern time, the pop culture obviously played great influence to people especially the young generation and their personal mode of expression. The modern fashion scene affects the way people dress, the way they talk, the way they listen to music and even the way they spend their money. Modern teenagers think fashion consists of chic clothing, colored hair, ear, nose and tongue piercing ring of different sizes, high end accessories, cool gadgets – all about experimenting and trying to “fit in”. They are always on the lookout for something new and different on the scene.
While there is nothing wrong of trying to fit in, sometimes keeping up with teen fads can be exhausting for parents. There’s no shame on that. There are always pleasant ways of getting across your opinion to your teens. Many fads are harmless and as long as it doesn’t go against your moral and family values, let them be. The key is talking to your teens and understanding what they are into and not to pick a bottle and disrupt their social life.
